MEET THE TEAM

CALLUM
Hi, I’m Callum Rixson (aka @gb_bartender). My journey in hospitality started right here behind the stick at The Shoes when I was 18. That early spark led to a career running groups of bars, opening Bath’s award-winning whisky bar, The Hideout (check it out), and later working in marketing for Monkey Shoulder Whisky.
In September 2024, life came full circle when Ashley and I officially took over as owners of The Shoes after meeting in the pub nearly 15 years ago. Today, our focus is entirely on making this local a welcoming hub of exceptional hospitality, top-tier bevs, live music, and always having a good laugh while we’re at it.

ASH
Hey! I’m Ash the Landlady of the Shoes, you may hear some people call me Peggy. I’ve been a part of the Shoes family for over 16 years, met my future husband (the landlord) in this pub and spent most of my youth growing up within these walls. In 2024 we became ‘Landpeople’ and as my background is in admin, you’ll typically find me in the office behind the desk rather than the bar pulling the pints.
The Shoes is definitely a community pub; one that thrives on great music, good people and fantastic drinks. We are incredibly lucky to have the most amazing team working with us, alongside the best locals, it really is a family unit. You’ll find me in either a shandy or a martini mood when I’m not working and probably putting WHAM! on the jukebox.

WIDGET
Widg / Wee-Waa / Widgy Woo / Widglington
Charlotte Rosemarie Hughes (if you’re telling her off).
Retired pint pourer. Amateur gig wrangler. Collector of earworms, countryside views, and questionable amounts of pub gossip.
Lover of live music, cigarettes, long drives, and somehow convincing an eight-piece band they’ll definitely fit on our stage.

BERTIE
Hi I’m Bertie, I’ve been working at the Shoes since September 2022 and now look after the cellar and stock as well as bartending. My go-to drink is a Guinness.
I’m a Bristol Rovers season ticket holder and have a large collection of football shirts.
I also play the Melodeon in a Ceilidh band and enjoy going to gigs as well as playing gigs myself.
-
CLAIRE
I’m Bradford born and bred and work in and around the town. I’m always out and about walking as BOA is a great place to live. I’m a tea addict but love a nice pint of Cheddar Valley - there’s always a stash in my shed!
I play the piano and violin and love live music which is why the Shoes on Sunday is the perfect place for me. Sundays always make me smile… love the laughs with the regulars, the bands, and the characters that come through the doors every week, and of course the team, they all make the Shoes an amazing place to be!

COREY
When at the Shoes I love a “gooch” a shot of gin in a tall glass with ice then topped up with hooch. Whilst I’m not slinging drinks my favourite thing to do in Bradford on Avon is to get fish and chips then head down to the river to spot fish swimming. My favourite thing about the Shoes is busy vibrant bar with a rustic classic pub atmosphere which is hard to find these days.

FREDDIE
Freddie-Eddie-Eddie
Or just Freddie Jones
Three Horseshoes Boogie-woogie Boy.Barback & Bartender extraordinaire. Aspiring actor for stage and screen. Geek of comic books, video games, and cinema.
The best part of working at The Shoes is the cooky community dynamic, the back and forth banter, feeling the amount of love everyone has for this building, and also the way The Three Horseshoes champions musicians of all varieties from the local area.
Ask me about my current theatrical projects, my favourite spirit of the week, live music shenanigans at the pub, or whatever my shirt says.
-
GOOSE
They call me Goose. I’ve been referred to as a social lubricant and source of optimism. Will always deliver service with a smile. I’m fresh meat, but absolutely love being a part of the Shoes family. We do ‘pub’ very well and how it should be done. Best pub in town if you ask me! Get on down there! You won’t regret it.

HARRY J
Drawn in by the sounds of ferocious punk music blaring out the door, the Shoes quickly became the only pub I wanted to frequent. And frequent it I did. In fact, I ended up frequenting it so much I was told I might as well start working there. So here I am. And while I do tend to disappear for months on end, the gravitational pull of the place still gets me from across the globe and you can still (occasionally) find me dishing out crisp pints in your nan’s freshest nighty.
As one of the Four Founding Fathers of the Shoes Run Club, you will also find me laying down the ones and twos every Sunday morning with the rest of the gang. Otherwise, I’ll be sipping a Black Rat in the beer garden or on the dance floor. 😎

HARRY W
For almost two years now, I’ve been doing my best not to annoy my boss—though I’m not sure I’ve been particularly successful! During that time, Marsh and I have spent plenty of hours behind the Lucky’s bar, slinging cocktails and experimenting with new ideas. When I’m not at work—which sometimes feels like a rare occasion—you’ll usually find me out on my motorbike, playing a round of golf, or enjoying a pint in a beer garden.
-
HELEN
Hey, I’m Helen. I’ve lived in Bradford for 30 years and have been pulling pints at The Shoes for over three. I’m a mum of four and Grandma. When I’m not behind the bar, I’m usually walking my dogs or enjoying a Moretti, a cocktail or 2 from Lucky’s and a catch-up with friends. You could say I’m fully committed to pub life, I enjoy both sides of the bar equally! 🍺 😄
-
IDRIS
I’m Idris, I’m part of the bar team here at The Three Horseshoes. I’m both a bartender and barback, and I love working here. It never feels like work when you’re surrounded by great people.
Outside of work, I’m studying Graphic Design and spend a lot of my spare time skating. If I’m not doing either of those, there’s a good chance I’m back in the pub with a Red Stripe in hand.
My favourite thing at the Shoes is Vinyl Gathering, especially when I get to see my mum drop bangers.
-
JACK
You can’t choose your own nickname, and since working at The Shoes mine has become Jack-Off (for reasons I can’t (legally) divulge).
The Shoes is a brilliant melting pot of just about everything a really good pub can be, full of people from all walks of life - I think that’s what I appreciate most about working here.
When I’m not slinging pints or changing nappies, I enjoy (watching) Sumo Wrestling and eating jazzed up instant ramen.
-
KAI
My main hobbies outside of work are building my sound system called en-trance and playing in my death metal band Skintag, anything with obnoxiously loud music and I’m there for it.
My favourite spot in Bradford is the skatepark as having been a part of the design process and push to get the council to build it makes it a very special place to me. My favourite part of working at the Shoes is the people, since I started bartending getting to know all the regulars properly has been a great laugh despite their attitudes.
I have lots of favourite drinks but if I’m going to narrow it down I’d have to bring it back to my old faithful, Red Stripe, one of the first beers I ever had and a favourite ever since.

KEMPY
Oh yeah… ahem…
I am an experienced Barsteward of many pubs and restaurants from Surrey to Cardiff and one end of Bradford On Avon to the other end of Bradford On Avon. And Trowbridge…
I love beer, the real stuff, the crafty stuff, the hoppy stuff, the bitter stuff, the strong stuff and the weird stuff. Real Ale is a criminally underappreciated national treasure and needs to be cared for for future generations to enjoy/ruin themselves on and I have taken it upon myself to do it at the Three Horseshoes which I am privileged to have “worked” in for nearly 3 centuries (or something like that…)
-
LOUIE
Hi, I’m Louie!
I’m originally from London and recently moved to the local area. I’m really enjoying getting to know the community and settling into my new surroundings. I’m looking forward to meeting everyone and being part of the team at the Three Horseshoes.
-
LUKE
Hi I’m Luke, the Barman that always looks grumpy, but very rarely is (I was born with this face 🙃).
I have worked at The Shoes since October 2025 and love the fact it feels like a real community hub; bringing people from every walk of life together, to enjoy a pint or share a few cocktails. Also being surrounded by beautiful architecture, such as the Tithe Barn, ensures it is such a beautiful place to work and visit. A hidden treasure.
When I’m on the other side of the bar you’re likely to see me with a Lager in my hand, however I sometimes do try and look a little interesting and enjoy a glass of dry white. When it comes to cocktails I always order the barman’s recommendation, as I love a surprise and they are the expert.
Away from the pub I am an avid sports fan. Tennis, Rugby and most importantly Football! I play every weekend during the season; sometimes multiple times. Also being a huge supporter of Arsenal, so I know how to take a joke.
-
MARSHALL
Ello, I’m Marshall. The sarcastic bartender with the backwards hat, well one of them anyway!
I’ve been at the Shoes since May 2025. It’s become a bit of a second home to me and you’ll rarely catch me anywhere else. If you do, I’ll probably just be on my way down there!
I’ve been in Lucky’s since the very beginning with Harry. Since we started we’ve made loads of great friends, attended huge industry events and worked on really cool stuff for our menus. It’s been such a whale of a time. Long may it continue!
-
OCY
Your friendly local gal who’s here, there and everywhere. From painting one day, pet sitting the next to pulling pints and bringing the energy to the gang. Her favourite choice of drink is mood and weather dependent, either a cider and black on a sunny day or a Guinness in a downpour. You’ll find her with a smile on her face either side of the bar.
-
SOPH
Hi, I’m Soph - Ashley’s sister! Full time you’ll find me painting tiny works of art on people’s nails and chatting about books, but I’ve always loved pouring pints and having a laugh behind the bar. On a hot day, you’ll usually find me with a shandy in the beer garden (definitely under an umbrella or I’ll burn!), and when the colder months roll around, it’s got to be a Guinness.
I might have a resting b*tch face 90% of the time, but I promise I’m friendly and always up for a good old chat!
